Days 8-10

Day 8 - 6/29/2012

Hey all sorry its been a few days since I've updated this but I've been keeping busy.  On Tuesday I had class in the morning and then in the evening went to a play called Posh.  Posh is quite popular here apparently and our program director said it is likely to go to Broadway next year.  Simply put the play was fantastic.  Its based on the story of of the Bullingdon Club which you can read about here.  Basically to summarize there's this secret club at Oxford that has dinner once a term and destroys the place during and afterward.  These kids are all from elite society and deemed to be people who can take over the world after school.  The scary thing is the current Prime Minister David Cameron and the current Mayor of London Boris Johnson were both members along with many other members of the British government.  The play is a comedy and satire and was absolutely outrageous though I definitely think its more for my generation.  I don't want to spoil any more of the plot in case others want to go see it but its great.  The picture above is the best I could manage without a flash of the theater.  Apologies

Day 9 - 6/30/2012

On Wednesday I had my first day of what is my core class.  Unfortunately this is the class that you need to take depending on what field your internship is and mine is horrible.  I could write an essay about how bad my professor is but I'd rather not waste yours and my time because simply put I'll just have to deal with it anyway.  After a miserable 4 hours of class I got home around 6 and ate dinner before heading over to Imperial.  As I believe I said before Wednesday is their big night.  We had planned to go there just to have a few cheap pints then head elsewhere but the night drastically changed course.  As I was hanging around the bar I noticed a few British guys playing what looked like an extremely strange drinking game.  I was courageous (or stupid) enough to walk over introduce myself and ask if I could join in.  In typical British fashion the guy I was talking to said of course but only if I sat down to play before he started to explain the rules.  Also turns out that the guys I sat down with were the Imperial Football (soccer) Club who were out celebrating their league title.  Essentially from what I gathered I walked into the equivalent of the Alabama football team though I don't believe they take college sports nearly as seriously here.  Needless to say being the American who sat down with them the Brits quickly went after me.  Although after I proved I could actually hold my own they calmed down a bit and I had a lot of fun meeting some guys my age from the UK.  I stumbled home at the end of the night quite drunk but it was a lot a fun and well worth the hangover I would wake up with the next morning.  One of my friends snapped a hysterical action shot of the game in progress at the pub.

Day 10 - 6/31/2012

There's not a whole lot to be said about day 10.  I had 7 hours of class beginning at 1pm as I was still nursing the effects of the night before.  Again this is the class I hate and we had 7 hours because my professor is going to be absent next week so we need to make it up.  She only gave us two breaks in the 7 hours which was abysmal.  Afterward my friend Catie and I went to a local pub to grab some food and a pint to try and get over that horrible experience.  Both of us were dead tired and headed home by 8 and by 9 o'clock I went to bed as I had another makeup class at 9am the next day.
